UPSC CSE 2025 Notification Released, Least Vacancies in Last Three Years, Know Last Date to Apply

Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released the notification for Civil Services Exam 2025. UPSC Civil Services Prelims Exam (UPSC CSE Prelims Exam 2025 Date) will be held on 25 May 2025. The online application process has started on 22nd January 2025, which will continue till 11th February 2025. Interested and eligible candidates can apply online by visiting the official website of the Commission (UPSC) upsc.gov.in.

UPSC vacancies have decreased in the last three years
According to the notification of UPSC (UPSC CSE 2025 Notification), about 979 posts will be filled through this recruitment drive. Out of these 38 posts are reserved for Persons with Disabilities (PWBD) candidates. Compared to last year, there has been a decrease of 77 posts this time. Last year, 1,056 posts were advertised. While 1,105 posts were released in 2023 and 1,022 posts in 2022. Apart from Civil Services Exam, UPSC has also announced a total of 150 vacancies for Indian Forest Service (IFS).

Who can apply?
Should have a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university. Final year students can also apply, but after qualifying in prelims, they have to submit proof of graduate pass before mains. Further, the age limit of applicants should be minimum 21 years and maximum 32 years as on 01 August 2025. However, there is some relaxation in the upper age limit for reserved category candidates. Step 4: If you are taking the exam for the first time, register by filling the required details.
Step 5: Now login using generated credentials.
Step 6: Fill the application form with required details and pay the fee and click submit.

UPSC CSE has three stages: Prelims, Mains and Interview. Objective type questions are asked in the prelims exam while in the mains exam, candidates will have to answer a descriptive type paper. After this, candidates shortlisted in the main stage proceed to the final stage which consists of personality test i.e. interview.

The Civil Services (Preliminary) examination consists of two objective type papers carrying a total of 400 marks and serves as a screening tool to select candidates for the next stage. The marks in the preliminary examination do not affect the final ranking, but approximately twelve to thirteen times more candidates than the number of vacancies available will be selected from among those who passed the examination to appear in the Civil Services (Main) examination.
