New Delhi, December 12

Trinamool Congress (TMC) Rajya Sabha member Sagarika Ghose on Thursday issued a courtesy motion notice against Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju for making insulting remarks against opposition leaders in the Rajya Sabha. . A source said that 60 members of the opposition parties have signed the notice.

Talking to reporters, Bibi Ghosh said, “Yesterday while addressing the opposition in the House, Mr. Rijiju said that you all do not deserve to be in this House… Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiran Rijiju has done his best to run the Parliament smoothly. Preferring to repeatedly insult the opposition instead of trying.”

Bibi Ghosh, deputy leader of the TMC in the Rajya Sabha, said, “Rijiju has insulted members of the opposition and used abusive language personally inside and outside Parliament. This is totally unbecoming of his high office and amounts to abuse of his position.” He said he had moved a courtesy motion against Rijiju for ‘misusing his position’ against the opposition.

It is to be noted that Rijiju, who was enraged by the attacks on Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar by the opposition parties, had said on Wednesday that ‘opposition MPs do not deserve to be in the House’. Rijiju had said, “If you cannot respect the position of the Chairman, then you have no right to be a member of this House.”

On Tuesday, 60 MPs of the opposition ‘India’ alliance (INDIA Bloc) also sent a notice in the Rajya Sabha to move a no-confidence motion against Dhankhar. The opposition alleges that Dhankhar is adopting a very ‘biased’ attitude towards the opposition while fulfilling his responsibility as the chairman of the upper house and is acting like a ‘spokesman’ of the government. -News-Patiala
