Vivek Agnihotri’s statement on Maharashtra’s food, clarification had to be given- ‘Jokingly spoken’

New Delhi: Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri is once again trapped amid controversy. People are expressing displeasure over his statement on his Maharashtrian food and drink. The director appeared on the YouTube channel of Curly Tales along with wife Pallavi Joshi, where he talked about his early experiences with traditional Marathi food, but one of his statement found many people derogatory.

Pallavi told during the conversation that when he served Maharashtrian food to Vivek in the early days of marriage, Vivek often dismissed it as very simple. He said, ‘I will tell you about the Maharashtrian dish. They did not like anything that I used to make because they thought, ‘Do you eat the food of the poor.’ Vivek Agnihotri explained what he meant.

Talk on Marathi food and drink

Vivek later explained why he found this food unfamiliar initially. He said, ‘There is no salt in it, you have to add separately. You also have to squeeze lemon from above. Then they asked me to eat Kadhi, I hope it would be full of red chili but Marathi Kadhi is a healthy dish. He admitted that this simplicity was a ‘cultural shock’ for him. She said, ‘I said- poor food like farmers, but gradually they adopted North Indian food. Now, I don’t eat that. Now, I eat simple food like them. This is the best way to eat. Vivek called the Maharashtrian Thali a ‘most economical and healthy plate’.

Vivek Agnihotri responded to criticism
After the clips of the show went viral, some people reprimanded Vivek for insulting their food. Vivek reacted on The Raunak Podcast and said that his comment was made jokingly. He further said that his words were edited in such a way that he may look more disputed. Vivek Agnihotri is getting ready for the release of his film ‘The Bengal Files’. The film investigates the painful incidents of the Direct Action Day of Bengal and the 1946 Calcutta murder case.
