voter limit: No voter should be left out: Supreme Court

New Delhi, December 2

The Supreme Court has sought a response from the Election Commission on a PIL challenging the decision to increase the maximum number of voters at each polling station from 1200 to 1500. The Supreme Court said that no voter should be left out. A bench of Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna and Justice Sanjay Kumar asked the Election Commission to clarify its stand and said, “We are concerned. No voter should be left out.” The bench asked Maninder Singh, senior advocate presented by the Election Commission, to file an affidavit explaining the real purpose of this decision. The bench has asked the Election Commission to provide a copy of this affidavit to the petitioner before the next hearing on January 27. The public interest petition filed by Indu Parkash Singh challenged the two letters issued by the Election Commission in August 2024 regarding increasing the number of voters per polling station in each constituency across the country. Singh claimed that this decision of the Election Commission was biased and it is not based on any data. -PTI
