Mobile E-Voting: Bihar has made a new start in India’s electoral history and has completed preparations to become the first state to start e-voting through mobile. This facility will be implemented for the first time in the municipal body and urban local body elections to be held on June 28, especially migrant workers, elderly, disabled, pregnant women and seriously sick people will get a chance to vote safely through their mobile phones.
C-dac ready
This new technology has been developed together by C-DAC (Center for Development of Advanced Computing) and Bihar Election Commission. This includes state -of -the -art security features, such as blockchain technology, facial recognition, and live face scanning, so that the identity disturbances can be completely prevented and the transparency of voting remains.
How will mobile e-voting?
Two Android apps have been created for this e-voting system, one has been prepared by C-DAC named “E-Voting Secbhr” and the other app has been prepared by Bihar Election Commission. These apps are designed in such a way that fake identity can be prevented and voting should be completely safe.
Who will be able to vote from mobile?
Those people will be able to take advantage of this new system who cannot reach the polling station for some reason like migrant laborers, disabled citizens, pregnant women, senior citizens and seriously ill people. According to State Election Commissioner Deepak Prasad, more than 10,000 voters have registered for this facility so far and it is estimated that about 50,000 people will use this mobile e-voting in the upcoming election.
Complete system of safety and transparency
Audit trail facility like VVPAT has also been included in this system to ensure that the record of every vote is safe. Apart from this, techniques like OCR (optical character recognition) technology, digital locks for safety of EVMs and face recognition system (FRS) have also been added for counting of votes.
Steps towards an inclusive democracy
According to the Election Commissioner, the purpose of this step is not just to use technology but to make democracy more inclusive and accessible. People who were still deprived of voting till now, are now going to get the rights sitting at home. It is worth noting that till now only Estonia is a country in the whole world, where mobile e-voting has been implemented at the entire nation level. This is starting from Bihar in India, which can become an inspirational example for other states of the country.
