Chandigarh, 27 December
A consultant and special reader of ‘The News-Patiala’ is saddened by the death of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Dr. Whenever Manmohan Singh met him, he would inevitably ask, “So, how is everything going on in the News-Patiala?” We all know that The News-Patiala was part of his daily media diet and this popular readership. He often read everything published in the newspaper.
He visited The News-Patiala office more than once and luckily I was there. He came to the office only a few years after I was appointed to the paper. I do not remember that at that time Dr. What position did Manmohan Singh hold, but the personality is important, not the position.
He addressed the editorial staff of ‘The News-Patiala’ in the board room. He spoke to us very calmly before going to the editor-in-chief’s office. When ‘The News-Patiala’ celebrated its 125th anniversary in 2005, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh presided over the function at PGI’s Bhargava Auditorium.
At that time he had said, “I have been a faithful reader of ‘The News-Patiala’ all my life.” Now it has become my habit and I have no reason to stop reading it. Like my morning tea and morning walk. “There is no other way to start the day than reading my favorite newspaper.” He had said, “I can’t imagine life without The News-Patiala as my morning dose.”
