According to police sources, Chaudhary, a former Akal Federation chief trained in Pakistan, has written books on Sikh militancy. Chaudhary visited Pakistan three times before returning to India in 1995.
Chaudhary was also a suspect in the former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh murder case. He was also allegedly involved in the 2004 Burail jail break case where four undertrials including Beant Singh’s killer and Babbar Khalsa International chief Jagtar Singh Hawara escaped by digging a tunnel from Barrack No. 7 of the jail. This incident took place on the night of 21 January 2004.
According to the information, about 30 cases were registered against Chawda under the Explosives Act on 8 May 2010 in the Civil Line Police Station of Amritsar. Besides, it was also wanted in cases registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in Amritsar, Tarn Taran and Ropar.
Narayan Chaudhary was out on bail
Narayan Singh Chaudhary was arrested on 28 February 2013 from Jalalabad village in Tarn Taran and was out on bail. According to the police, Chaudhary had gone to Pakistan in 1984 and was instrumental in smuggling large consignments of arms and explosives into Punjab during the initial phase of militancy. While living in Pakistan, he reportedly wrote books on guerrilla warfare.
