How the body reacts when you blush
When we are embarrassed, nervous, or in an emotional state, our brain immediately sends a signal to the body that something unusual has happened. In response, the body releases adrenaline – the same hormone that is released during fear, anger or stress. This is part of the body’s “Fight or Flight” response.

Why do your face and ears turn red?
Due to the effect of Adrenaline (Adrenaline Hormone Effect), our blood vessels dilate, which increases blood flow. The skin of the face, neck and ears is thin and the blood flow is high. Therefore, the redness in these areas is most noticeable and appears clear.

Why is the face red?
Oxygen in the blood is responsible. When adrenaline increases blood flow, the capillaries (small blood vessels) under the skin fill with oxygenated blood. Oxygenated blood is light red, which appears to shine through the skin. This whole process is an involuntary reaction – meaning we can’t stop it. Interestingly, blushing occurs only in humans, not in any other species. This is what makes us unique and emotionally special.
