External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar is currently on a US visit. Here on Tuesday, he met the US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Meanwhile, he expressed concern over the delay in the visa process. Jaishankar told Rubio that India supports legal immigration, but illegal immigration and related activities are neither desirable nor appropriate. Jaishankar was talking to reporters at the Indian Embassy in Washington, where he gave information about the meeting with his American counterpart Rubio and the meeting of the Quad Foreign Ministers.
India ready to take back its citizens
External Affairs Minister Jaishankar clarified India’s position on this issue and said, ‘We are supporters of legal mobility and want that the talented people of India should get more opportunities at the global level. We are against illegal immigration and mobility, as other illegal activities are also linked to it. It is neither desirable nor good.
He said that India has always taken this stand that if any Indian citizen is living abroad illegally then India is ready for his legal return. He said, ‘Our stand has always been that we are ready to return if any of our citizens are not there legally. This is being debated but our stand on this issue is clear.
On the number of illegal Indians deported from the US, External Affairs Minister Jaishankar said, ‘We have seen some numbers, but I want to caution you about their number (18,000), because we have to confirm that they are Indians. are.’
Expressed concern over the delay in the visa
Jaishankar also raised the issue of delay in the visa process during his interaction with US Secretary of State Rubio. He said that if it takes 400 days to get the visa, it will become a hindrance in moving the relations between the two countries forward properly. Jaishankar said, ‘We have requested the US Secretary of State to ensure legal and easy mobility for mutual benefit. The US Secretary of State also took note of Jaishankar’s words and assured to take appropriate steps in this direction.
