Both mother and father were musicians
Both father Roshan Nagrath and mother Ira Roshan had a relationship with music. When Rakesh Roshan was born, both his parents were struggling in Mumbai. In an interview with mid-day, Rakesh himself told, ‘I was born in a garage in Bombay. This garage was of the big musician Husnlal Bhagatram, where my father lived. When 17 -year -old Rakesh came home responsibilities
Seeing the difficulties found during acting, he changed his surname to Nagrath to illuminated, so that the producers could know that he is the son of Roshan Nagrath. Rakesh Roshan started acting in 1970 with ‘Ghar Ghar Ki Kahani’. In 1971, he got the lead role for the first time in ‘Seema’, but the film flopped. After this, despite the lead role in films like ‘Aankh Aankh Mein’, ‘Aankh Michauli’, he could not succeed as a hero. He himself admitted that he got work in 70 out of 94 films because he himself had sought. He also played the role of Villain in despair.

Borrowed home with friends
During the struggle, it became difficult for Rakesh to raise his family wife Pinky Roshan, daughter Sunaina and son Hrithik Roshan. He lived in a two-bedroom flat with his brother and parents. Hrithik had told in Simi Grewal’s show Randagewas- ‘We used to sleep on the mattresses. Gradually furniture came. That time was very difficult for Papa. Rakesh Roshan also admitted in The Roshans documentary that he often borrowed up to 5000 rupees from friends so that electricity-water bills could be filled.
Called wretched, heroine refused to work together
In 1977, he was going to get a big opportunity from the film ‘Priyatma’, but distributors and heroine Neetu Kapoor refused to work with him. He was rejected as ‘wretched’. This incident broke them inside. He had said, ‘I went to the terrace and screaming to God and asked- why are you doing this with me?’ Not only this, when he used to go to parties with his friends Rishi Kapoor and Jitendra, he and his wife Pinki were removed from the group photo. He shared this anecdote on the show ‘Brendejavas with Simi Garewal’ and told that he felt bad for Pinky with all these things for himself.
Taking a risk to become a director
In 1987, Rakesh Roshan left acting and tried his hand in direction. He pledged his house and car to make his first film ‘Khudgarj’. The film was a superhit and after that he was included in Bollywood’s top directors by hit films like ‘Khoon Bhani Mang’, ‘Kishan Kanhaiya’. In the year 2000, he launched his son Hrithik with ‘Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai’, which proved to be an all time blockbuster. After this, the ‘Koi Mil Gaya’ and ‘Krish’ series made this father-in-law Duo the most successful duo of Bollywood.
