Dhaka:
An influential adviser in Bangladesh’s interim government termed the vandalism of Bangladesh’s diplomatic mission in Agartala as India’s ‘failure’ and asked New Delhi to reassess its neighbor (Bangladesh) after the overthrow of the Sheikh Hasina government. Legal affairs consultant Asif Nazrul wrote in a Facebook post, “We believe in friendship based on equality and mutual respect. The Sheikh Hasina government adopted a pro-India policy to gain power without elections, but India should understand that this is not Sheikh Hasina’s Bangladesh.” Against the Awami League-led government over the controversial reservation in government jobs. After the protests, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had to leave the post on August 5 and flee to India. Nazrul said that the Hindu Sangharsh Samiti was responsible for what happened at the Assistant High Commission of Bangladesh in Agartala. He said, “If such an incident had happened in Bangladesh under the name of ‘Muslim Struggle Committee’, how aggressively would India have reacted?” also criticized Nazrul said that India should instead consider incidents of oppression against minorities and Dalits within its own borders. Nazrul has made these comments at a time when Dhaka has strongly protested to New Delhi about the Agartala attack just a day ago. -PTI
