The parents of the woman doctor who was raped and murdered in Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in August 2024 have demanded punishment for all those involved in the crime. The victim’s father said that he is not seeking capital punishment for Sanjay Roy at this time, but that all the names should come forward. We want maximum punishment not only for Sanjay Roy but for all of them. So we are not demanding capital punishment for Sanjay Roy now.
said while talking to reporters after the hearing on the approval of two parallel petitions by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the West Bengal government. Sanjay Roy has been sentenced to death by a division bench of the Calcutta High Court. A division bench of Justice Debanshu Basak and Justice Shabar Rashidi has reserved judgment on the matter for the time being and it will be clear only after the judgment of the matter whether both, or either of them, will take up the plea.
Last week, a special court in Kolkata sentenced Sanjay Roy to life imprisonment. However, both the CBI and the state government approached the Calcutta High Court challenging the order of the special court and sought death sentence for the lone accused. – IANS
