The Ministry of Health of the country has said that 170 cholera cases have been registered till 6 pm local time.
Three citizens have died of cholera in the last 24 hours. Along with this, 51 new cases have been registered. The outbreak has now spread to two additional municipalities in addition to the capital province, Luanda. According to a report by Xinhua News Agency, the outbreak of cholera is increasing after the first case was reported on Tuesday. Emergency procedures have been implemented in the country.
The statement of the Minister of Health
Angola’s Minister of Health Sylvia Lutukuta has issued a statement. Emergency plans have been activated to deal with cholera outbreaks in the country, particularly in its epicenter, Kakuako municipality in Luanda province. According to Lutukuta, health officials have stepped up epidemiology and lab surveillance. Along with resource mobilization, public health communication has been improved and people’s access to clean drinking water has been ensured.
Cleaning of tanks
He said that we are doing everything to fight this disease. The Ministry of Health convened a meeting of the Commission to Fight Cholera at Kaikuako’s General Hospital. Director of the Public Water Company, Adao Silva, said that 17 community water tanks used for drinking water have already been cleaned.
Ensuring clean water supply
Supply of clean water is being ensured in the affected areas. Dirty tanks are banned. Angola’s Ministry of Health has activated its National Cholera Response Plan to mobilize medical resources and supplies, with the aim of providing people with access to potable water.
